General Portnoy's last stand in Dream Theater proved to be the Summer Sonic Festival in Chiba, Japan August 8th, 2010. Within approximately a month, he announced he was quitting the band, sparking a whirlwind of drama and arguing which has persisted to this day. I think he made the right decision. Every video I've seen of Dream Theater from 2010, he looks bored. He's overplaying the drums (the cymbals especially), standing up behind the kit a lot, sometimes rushing or being super erratic with the tempo. Perhaps a break could have reinvigorated him, but the other members simply did not want to comply, and so the rest is history as they say. But thanks Portnoy, not just for your musical contributions to Dream Theater, but also for staying on top of the business aspects of the band and providing so many interesting recordings (i.e. the Ytse Jam Records and Prism Records CDs) which make the job of DT collectors like me so fun.

I've never come across this "Moonlight Prelude" bootleg as anything other than MP3s. I think the sound is "killer" as advertised, regardless of the MP3 encode. There are CD copies of this bootleg I've seen up for sale, plus other versions called "A Nightmare To August" and "The Final Stage." There's no guarantee if you buy any of these CDs that they will be an improvement over what I'm offering. I would not put it past many commercial bootleggers to simply put MP3s onto CDs and try to sell them anyway.

Dream Theater - The Change Of A Change Of Seasons

This is one of the rarest DT bootlegs I have, as it was limited to just 50 physical copies. On it, you get: 1. The Chris Cintron audition of A Change Of Seasons. The back cover art says “A Change Of Seasons ’89” which is partially true. The instrumental parts were laid down in 1989, but Cintron would have performed vocals in 1990. 2. The 1993 Limelight performance of A Change Of Seasons. One of only two times ACOS got played live with “the two Kevins” Moore & LaBrie (other was Bonn, Germany 1993). 3. The “Mercy Fuck” performance of A Change Of Seasons from Old Bridge, NJ June 1995. This one sounds nice in contrast to the very noisy version of this show in circulation. 4. The sample from Dead Poet’s Society about Carpe Diem meaning “seize the day.” 5. “A Change Of Simpsons.” This is a Scenes era performance of this song which has a piece of The Simpson’s Theme included.
