Free Dream Theater Bootlegs And Rare Items

This is a special post I've been planning for a long time. It got delayed because I did not receive the "Vive La France" bootleg from someone on schedule as predicted. Anyway, there's a very bad quality audience video of the show in Paris at Le Bataclan which is featured on the Once In A LIVEtime CD. There are numerous audio recordings of this show someone could use to combine with the video and make it watchable, as my friend Robo4900 did for Under A Glass Moon , and I've done so far for Hey You and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road .   I posted a version of this show (the one with the mobius strip artwork ) on my YouTube channel earlier this year, but ended up removing it, because I later noticed the cymbal sound was super messed up, I probably did not notice at the time because I had a cold and my ears were sort of plugged up. That led me to seeking out some other versions of this show. This one, released on the Bondage Music label in Japan, does not have the messed up cymbal issue, but has some crackling (as if it was transferred from a vinyl) and tape hiss. The tapes might also be too slow - I'm not sure. I was planning on creating an improved version but I was not happy with my initial attempts at removing the noise, and so I this will have to be another project I leave up to someone else if they're up for doing it. These are recordings of the two shows Dream Theater played in 1990 while they were still searching for a full-time replacement for Charlie Dominici. Both shows were at Sundance in Bay Shore, Long Island, and were conducted on June 9th and November 17th respectively. The June 9th show started with instrumental performances of Learning To Live (then known as Creep With Tonality), Ytse Jam, and A Change Of Seasons. This was the first time LTL and a full version of ACOS were played, some of the sub-sections of ACOS having been played live in 1989 (no recordings of this unfortunately). Dream Theater then brought out prospective lead singer Steve Stone AKA Stephan Erickson to sing Metropolis, A Fortune In Lies, and The Killing Hand. This was the only time Dream Theater played a show with a lead singer other than Chris Collins, Charlie Dominici, or James LaBrie. Unfortunately, Stone badly embarrassed himself. This is a lesser circulated show from the Japanese leg of the Falling Into Infinity tour. Has some early teasers of Beyond This Life in Petrucci's solo, and also incidentally, the live debut of Speak To Me. Somebody (not me) decided to convert this bootleg to the obscure .ogg format, which can be played using VLC. I have not found a program which can batch convert these files. Audacity can convert .ogg files, but only one track at a time, so with everything I have on my plate right now, this is something I'm not going to do myself.     This was a request I got from someone. The quality of many of these tracks leaves much to be desired. However, possibly all of these clips are from rare lineages of these shows which can’t be found on any other bootlegs. For example, the clips from the Waldrock Festival and the Utrecht 1993 are not from the common soundboard sources of these shows. The back cover of this CD rather laughably claims it was printed in North Korea. DVD Specs: NTSC? This is a version of this DVD which regrettably does not have the cover medley at the end of Take The Time including Free Bird, Hot For Teacher, Moby Dick, The Trooper, and YYZ. I don’t know what happened. The video basically farts out. However, the picture and sound quality overall are much better than two other DVDs I have of this show. One of those DVDs is really blurry and pixellated, and the other (which I bought from a very unscrupulous person on iOffer) has audio which goes way out-of-sync. It may even simply be downloaded from Jack Eigagder’s YouTube channel and burned onto a DVD. At any rate, this is my favorite video of the Falling Into Infinity years- better imo than the hodgepodge of videos on the Five Years In A LIVEtime DVD.
