Dream Theater - Nighttown Nostalgia - Rotterdam Fan Club Gig 1998 [FLAC]

Image
Sample Spectrogram Reading:   This post concludes what has been a big month in the history of this channel with 40 new items added! I will eventually get around to posting recordings of the second 1998 fan club gig from Paris. I have something special planned for that one. Dream Theater - Surrender To The Secrets - Live In Greenfield, WI 1992 [FLAC]

Image
Sample Spectrogram Reading: I have a version of this boot where the tapes are too fast. I was thinking about correcting the speed, but then I discovered that I had another version which was the correct speed. Possibly the best quality audience recording of Dream Theater from 1992. Dream Theater - Rattling Denver - Mammoth Events Center, Denver, CO 1994 FM Broadcast

Image
Here is one of those much sought after DT shows that features LaBrie singing material from the Awake album before his vocal injury that occurred in December 1994. Quality is spotty. I was going to work on trying to remaster it, but as I become increasingly more burnt out on DT, it’s something I’m not going to get to. The fact that the sound seems to change throughout the broadcast complicates things (some tracks are way darker than others, possibly as a result of denoising/tape hiss reduction someone already did). My favorite part of this show is hands down the "instrumental," which is a mesh of the Awake Jam and A Crack In The Mirror with a really cool solo from Derek Sherinian I haven't heard him play at any other shows. LaBrie is in top form at this show and really goes to town on To Live Forever. The support band, Galactic Cowboys, come to the stage to do backing vocals for Take The Time. The audio and video quality are both good, and the cameraman does a good job of focusing in on all the different band members (many videos I've watched focus disproportionately on LaBrie or Petrucci). Watching footage from this era of the band always makes me smile, because everything is in its right place. These poor guys probably did not know at the time that this was the peak of Dream Theater, and that the s

DVD Specs: NTSC These are pretty common (they're on Charlie Dominici's YouTube channel even), but the quality is usually degraded relative to what you see here. Crossroads is a cover of the band Cream. I believe this was recorded in Mike Portnoy's basement. I'll also add that you would never know any of these guys were heterosexual from this video. Dream Theater - Awake In Utrecht 2nd Night (DVD)

Setlist: 01) Pull Me Under 02) 6:00 03) Take The Time 04) Caught In A Web w/bathroom break AKA drum solo 05) Lifting Shadows Off A Dream 06) Acoustic Guitar Solo (For Rena) 07) Lost Without You 08) Damage Inc. 09) A Crack In The Mirror 10) The Mirror 11) Lie 12) Surrounded DVD Specs: PAL Here's a cool item from the First European Leg of the Waking Up The World Tour, the second of two back to back shows played at the Muziekcentrum Vredenburg (MCV) in Utrecht, Netherlands on February 15th. According to Portnoy, the earliest ideas for Metropolis Pt. II began at the soundcheck of this show (which unfortunately there is neither video nor audio of to my knowledge). The taper accidentally destroyed his second tape of this show containing the Mind Beside Itself suite, one of only TWO performances of Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding (the other being, of course, the 1995/01/31 Ronnie Scott's show featured on A Change Of Seasons), and Metropolis. Truly unfortuna

Dream Theater Live At Musiktheater, Kassel, Germany 1995 [128 kbps MP3s]

Image
Here's one of those elusive recordings from the Second European Leg of the Waking Up The World Tour. This show is known to predominantly circulate in MP3 format, but the quality is still good relative to some other DT items from around this same time, and the speed on this version is also correct. I have another version of this show which is too slow. Part of a melody played in Sherinian's keyboard solo, albeit after heavy modification, became part of Raise The Knife. Dream Theater - The Fix For '96

Image
One of only five shows Dream Theater played in 1996, and saw among the earliest performances of Burning My Soul (the original version with Hell's Kitchen), Just Let Me Breathe, Peruvian Skies, Lines In The Sand (which LaBrie introduces as Drawing Lines In The Sand), and Take Away My Pain, which had a different arrangement and lyrics at the time. The grunge version of Caught In A Web also has some of the riffs which became New Millennium. Another cool thing about the '96 shows is that they saw the reintroduction of an old favorite, The Killing Hand, into the setlist. There's another '96 bootleg I have, The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY, which I prefer to this one due to better quality an LaBrie being in better form. I'm not giving away master files of that one though because it's too rare, and I need some leverage for trading. I have that one on YouTube in case people want to listen. Another thing about that one is that I seem to recall it having gaps between

John Petrucci G3 Bootlegs + Paris 1997 Clinic

Image
This is a compendium of 10 different Petrucci items including G3 shows from 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, and 2012, plus a clinic from La Locomotive in Paris, France 1997/04/13, all in MP3 format. I.B.S (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) was the early working title for Jaws Of Life before John's Suspended Animation album was released. In the 2012 show (joined by Mike Mangini on drums and usual suspect Dave LaRue on bass), you get three as-of-yet unreleased songs: Cloud Ten, Zero Tolerance, and Glassy-Eyed Zombies. In the 1997 clinic, you get a playthrough of Purple Rain and the two-part Necronomicon song Petrucci composed for a SEGA Saturn pinball game in 1996. One more thing I'll mention is that the Phoenix 2001 show ("Shredfest") has some technical difficulties with Petrucci's distortion dying. He handles it like a pro though. https://mega.nz/#F!hKoUiBCa!dU_qJJ94MNcjAC4vhpRGeQ

Dream Theater - Wake The Fuck Up - Live In Denver, CO 2002

Image
I bought a copy of this from Discogs and handled conversion to FLAC, checksum and fingerprint generation, and photo scans myself. With a name like Wake The Fuck Up, you would expect this to be from the Waking Up The World Tour, but it's actually from the Six Degrees Tour. I find this bootleg uninteresting, so it's mysterious to me why it's so common (11 copies for sale on Discogs right now). It could be that it's just not distinguished enough to sell. At any rate, I don't regret putting it out there so people can check it out and see what it's all about. Download link: https://mega.nz/#F!5OxiXDwS!V2joKcl6hVTJuI1Xds3sbA

Dream Theater - Scenes From A World Tour (2000 International Fan Clubs CD)

Image
A recap of some interesting things from 2000, although the "What Did They Say?" thing might be from Old Bridge, NJ 1995, provided LaBrie never sang "mercy fuck" in A Change Of Seasons ever again. This CD does not really detail where these performances are from, but I know the Canadian Rap and War Pigs are from The Garage, Glasgow Oct. 18th 2000, the truncated version of The Spirit Carries On (which was cut short by the fire marshal) is from The Palace Theater, Los Angeles Feb. 4th, 2000, and the Guitar Solo/Gladiator Theme is from the Maaspoort, Den Bosch, Holland Oct. 14th 2000. With this CD, you also get a low quality MPG file from before the final show of the Metropolis 2000 tour . As always, make sure you have VLC or another program which can handle .cue files. Dream Theater Live At The Palace Theater, Los Angeles 1994 [FLAC]

Image
Sample Spectrogram Reading: This was DT’s last show in 1994, and therefore, the last show before LaBrie’s big accident in Cuba. Unfortunately, the quality is atrocious. There are three distinct problems: extreme levels of tape hiss, speed being incorrect, and the volume also being too quiet. Generally speaking, the quieter the analog recording, the more tape hiss there is, because the more incompletely the iron oxide particles bind to the tape (but of course, recording something too loud will generate distortion). I’m hoping that some audio wizards out there will download this and try to fix the problems. After much careful pruning away of the tape hiss, I was able to get a listenable version of the Awake Jam from this show up on YouTube . Unfortunately, I can't find the master audio file I used for the video, otherwise I would have given that away too. There is also an FM broadcast of several songs from this show which appeared on the Antiquities CD from Prism Records (the

Dream Theater - Romavarium (2006 International Fan Clubs DVD)

Image
This is a full performance of the Octavarium album from the PalaLottomatica AKA PalaEUR in Rome on Halloween 2005. Beware, because there is a different version of this show called “Panem Et Circensis” which I’m pretty sure is just the footage from the Romavarium DVD with worse video and sound quality, and an “Access ALL Areas” watermark in the right hand corner. I have not watched this show in a while, but I think it’s the one where a lady in the audience throws a bra at LaBrie, and he drapes it across Portnoy’s drum kit. Dream Theater - Kaliakra Rock Fest, Kavarna, Bulgaria 2009/06/23 2DVD

Image
I shared this one on YouTube a few months ago and figured some people might want the DVD. It's a fixed camera. Audio might be slightly out of sync quite sadly. Both DVDs combined are nearly 9 GB total, meaning that people without paid accounts on MEGA will have to download it in at least two spurts due to MEGA's download limit. Maybe download the first DVD, wait at least 6 hours, then download the second one? Download link: https://mega.nz/#F!5bxwnAqA!__SaOmSlcAv8xQWY1Ke1Og

Dream Theater - Food For Thought - Live In Danbury, CT 1992

CD 1: 01) Metropolis Pt. 1 02) Under A Glass Moon 03) Surrounded 04) Pull Me Under 05) Ytse Jam 06) Moonbubbles 07) Another Day 08) Another Hand 09) The Killing Hand CD 2: 01) Take The Time 02) O Holy Night 03) Wait For Sleep 04) Learning To Live Format: FLAC Date: December 13 Location: Tuxedo Junction No artwork for this bootleg and I'm not sure why it was called Food For Thought. However, as far as audience recordings from 1992 go, this one, as well as Greenfield, WI (which I'll be sharing later) is a standout. At this point in time, Dream Theater had "Moon Bubbles" a haunting duet between Johns Petrucci and Myung, in the set, as well as O Holy Night, seeing as it was getting close to Christmas. This bootleg already contains a frequency analysis, so I did not bother with that. Download link: https://mega.nz/#F!gGpQjQbL!DIK1Yy3cX6GM1jNc9YTTHA

Dream Theater - Maiden Voyage - Live At The Ritz, New York City 1992

Image
Sample Spectrogram Reading:   This is Dream Theater in the raw! One of the band's earliest shows with James LaBrie - his fourth to be exact. There is allegedly a video of DT from this show, but it's so rare, it's practically mythical. I don't know of any DT collectors who have it. There's just a listing for it on the boottrader.net database, which has generally proven to be reliable. I should also note that, since Dream Theater was opening for Iron Maiden and the stakes were high, they did a studio session warming up for this show which can be found on the When Dream And James Unite CD . It contained the first live performance of Scarred, one of the "Winter's Night" jams (never played after these shows), a full performance of A Change Of Seasons, a covers medley first unveiled during the Change Of Seasons "tour" in October 19

Dream Theater - The Covers 2

Image
Curiously, some of the items on this disc are not covers at all. Otherwise, it’s a solid compilation of some rarities including Kevin Moore's Space-Dye Vest demo and the Radio Veronica session which also appeared on the “Acoustic Dreams” bootleg. This CD offers several items from Bruce Dickinson’s radio show in January 1995, but is missing Caught In A Web. Don’t worry though, because you can get that on the Lifting Shadows companion CD I shared. I will get around to posting The Covers 1 eventually. I’m putting that one out there for a very specific purpose. All will be revealed soon. Once again, this bootleg is in .cue format, so make sure you have VLC or another program which can handle these. Audio recording of Mike Portnoy's last show in Dream Theater

Image
1) Intro (Psycho Theme) 2) A Nightmare To Remember 3) A Rite Of Passage 4) Prophets Of War 5) Wither 6) The Count Of Tuscany 7) Pull Me Under 8) Metropolis General Portnoy's last stand in Dream Theater proved to be the Summer Sonic Festival in Chiba, Japan August 8th, 2010. Within approximately a month, he announced he was quitting the band, sparking a whirlwind of drama and arguing which has persisted to this day. I think he made the right decision. Every video I've seen of Dream Theater from 2010, he looks bored. He's overplaying the drums (the cymbals especially), standing up behind the kit a lot, sometimes rushing or being super erratic with the tempo. Perhaps a break could have reinvigorated him, but the other members simply did not want to comply, and so the rest is history as they say. But thanks Portnoy, not just for your musical contributions to Dream Theater, but also for staying on top of the business aspects of the band and providing so many interestin

Dream Theater - Progressive Nation 2008 (2009 International Fan Clubs CD)

The best thing you get here in my opinion is the version of Repentance with Michael Akerfeldt singing. You also get a nice version of the clever "Dark Nintendo Night" remix, and I'm fond of the version of Misunderstood on here as well. This is in .cue format, so grab VLC if you need to. I'm going to assume bobhilbri was the one who shot this. I should note that the sound quality is excellent. Download link: https://mega.nz/#F!RPpCBZ4Q!0prz5MZdwfFfHh80QjRbEA
