Before Dream Theater performed this show, they also did a session with Radiomafia in Finland including acoustic performances of Lifting Shadows Off A Dream, Wait For Sleep, and The Silent Man. This is one of the rarest DT bootlegs I have, as it was limited to just 50 physical copies. On it, you get: 1. The Chris Cintron audition of A Change Of Seasons. The back cover art says “A Change Of Seasons ’89” which is partially true. The instrumental parts were laid down in 1989, but Cintron would have performed vocals in 1990. 2. The 1993 Limelight performance of A Change Of Seasons. One of only two times ACOS got played live with “the two Kevins” Moore & LaBrie (other was Bonn, Germany 1993). 3. The “Mercy Fuck” performance of A Change Of Seasons from Old Bridge, NJ June 1995. This one sounds nice in contrast to the very noisy version of this show in circulation. 4. The sample from Dead Poet’s Society about Carpe Diem meaning “seize the day.” 5. “A Change Of Simpsons.” This is a Scenes era performance of this song which has a piece of The Simpson’s Theme included. Did they do this on Live Scenes From New York? I can't remember, and have not the energy...

This is a special post I've been planning for a long time. It got delayed because I did not receive the "Vive La France" bootleg from someone on schedule as predicted. Anyway, there's a very bad quality audience video of the show in Paris at Le Bataclan which is featured on the Once In A LIVEtime CD. I believe this was DT's first ever fan club CD and it's pretty common and popular by now. The tracks from the Ronnie Scott's show are cleaner than what you get on the "Uncovered" CD. According to Portnoy, the earliest ideas for Metropolis Pt. II began at the soundcheck of this show (which unfortunately there is neither video nor audio of to my knowledge). The taper accidentally destroyed his second tape of this show containing the Mind Beside Itself suite, one of only TWO performances of Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding (the other being, of course, the 1995/01/31 Ronnie Scott's show featured on A Change Of Seasons), and Metropolis.   Here's one of those elusive recordings from the Second European Leg of the Waking Up The World Tour. This show is known to predominantly circulate in MP3 format, but the quality is still good relative to some other DT items from around this same time, and the speed on this version is also correct. I have another version of this show which is too slow. Part of a melody played in Sherinian's keyboard solo, albeit after heavy modification, became part of Raise The Knife. Curiously, some of the items on this disc are not covers at all. Otherwise, it’s a solid compilation of some rarities including Kevin Moore's Space-Dye Vest demo and the Radio Veronica session which also appeared on the “Acoustic Dreams” bootleg. This CD offers several items from Bruce Dickinson’s radio show in January 1995, but is missing Caught In A Web. Don’t worry though, because you can get that on the Lifting Shadows companion CD I shared. I will get around to posting The Covers 1 eventually.     This was a request I got from someone. The quality of many of these tracks leaves much to be desired. However, possibly all of these clips are from rare lineages of these shows which can’t be found on any other bootlegs. For example, the clips from the Waldrock Festival and the Utrecht 1993 are not from the common soundboard sources of these shows. The back cover of this CD rather laughably claims it was printed in North Korea. This was released on the Japanese Bondage Music label in 2002, and features three superb soundboard recordings which I consider to be essential for any DT bootleg collector. The first one is from IMP AKA Imperial Hall in Osaka 1992/11/19. This one also goes under the names Images and Tour '92 (vol. 1 of the "Soundboard Masters" series) and Osaka Samurai, and there is an audience recording of this same show which gets erroneously billed under the name Moon Bubbles as the Shibuya Kokaido in Tokyo 1992/11/18. The second recording is from Festival Hall in Osaka 1993/08/28, which also goes under the names Music In Progress Tour '93 (vol. 2 of the "Soundboard Masters" series) and Mission: Impossible. The third recording is from Koseinenkin Hall, Tokyo 1995/01/23, and also goes under the names Waking Up The World Tour '95 (vol. 3 of the "Soundboard Masters" series), and Tokyo Dragons. I only have this one as MP3s, but it's an interesting, relatively noise-free version of the show, compared to the more common one. There's a bit of a strange, metallic overtone to MP's cymbals, probably an artifact of the denoiser used. For the uninitiated, Showdown was an early instrumental version of Raise The Knife.   I've had two people now request this CD, so I may as well put it on this blog. The reason I did not put it up earlier is because some tracks are horrendously noisy, and I was trying to share things which were nice quality. The basic idea here, like the When Dream And Day Today album, which was one of the Prism Records CDs, is to construct the entire When Dream And Day Unite album with James singing using live recordings. This album has some really lovely bonus tracks which are hard, nay impossible, to find anywhere else. First, there is a soundboard recording of To Live Forever from Sursee, Switzerland 1993. This may trace back to an appearance of Portnoy on the Nightwatch program with Mike Kelly. Too lazy to check right now. Then, there is a studio session practicing for a gig with Iron Maiden in 1992 (sadly, the tapes have been sped way up and James sounds like a chipmunk).
