Dream Theater - When Dream And James Unite




















 
I've had two people now request this CD, so I may as well put it on this blog. The reason I did not put it up earlier is because some tracks are horrendously noisy, and I was trying to share things which were nice quality. The basic idea here, like the When Dream And Day Today album, which was one of the Prism Records CDs, is to construct the entire When Dream And Day Unite album with James singing using live recordings. This album has some really lovely bonus tracks which are hard, nay impossible, to find anywhere else. First, there is a soundboard recording of To Live Forever from Sursee, Switzerland 1993. This may trace back to an appearance of Portnoy on the Nightwatch program with Mike Kelly. Too lazy to check right now. Then, there is a studio session practicing for a gig with Iron Maiden in 1992 (sadly, the tapes have been sped way up and James sounds like a chipmunk). Finally, there are the ubiquitous tunes from Bruce Dickinson's radio show in 1995. It's just a shame so many songs on this CD are marred by audio problems, because it could have been a gem otherwise. The things I've shared from this CD on my channel were fixed up to the best of my ability, but I did not save the individual songs, just .mov files of the videos I made. So people are going to be on their own in correcting these files if the sound problems are too much for them to bear.

This was released on the Japanese Bondage Music label in 2002, and features three superb soundboard recordings which I consider to be essential for any DT bootleg collector. The first one is from IMP AKA Imperial Hall in Osaka 1992/11/19. This one also goes under the names Images and Tour '92 (vol. 1 of the "Soundboard Masters" series) and Osaka Samurai, and there is an audience recording of this same show which gets erroneously billed under the name Moon Bubbles as the Shibuya Kokaido in Tokyo 1992/11/18. The second recording is from Festival Hall in Osaka 1993/08/28, which also goes under the names Music In Progress Tour '93 (vol. 2 of the "Soundboard Masters" series) and Mission: Impossible. Dream Theater - The Change Of A Change Of Seasons

This is one of the rarest DT bootlegs I have, as it was limited to just 50 physical copies. On it, you get: 1. The Chris Cintron audition of A Change Of Seasons. The back cover art says “A Change Of Seasons ’89” which is partially true. The instrumental parts were laid down in 1989, but Cintron would have performed vocals in 1990. 2. The 1993 Limelight performance of A Change Of Seasons. One of only two times ACOS got played live with “the two Kevins” Moore & LaBrie (other was Bonn, Germany 1993). 3. The “Mercy Fuck” performance of A Change Of Seasons from Old Bridge, NJ June 1995. This one sounds nice in contrast to the very noisy version of this show in circulation. 4. The sample from Dead Poet’s Society about Carpe Diem meaning “seize the day.” 5. “A Change Of Simpsons.” This is a Scenes era performance of this song which has a piece of The Simpson’s Theme included.
