Dream Theater - Biskuithalle, Bonn, Germany 1997/04/19 pro-shot + SIR Studios, NYC 1989/04/26 (DVD)

Sample Thumbnails: DVD Specs (they're the same for both parts of the video): PAL Setlist for Bonn special (interspersed periodically with interviews): 01) Burning My Soul 02) Hollow Years 03) Puppies on Acid 04) Just Let Me Breathe 05) Lie Setlist for the SIR Studios show: 01) Distant Echoes (ambient montage of When Dream And Day Unite songs) 02) A Fortune in Lies 03) Afterlife 04) To Live Forever 05) Status Seeker 06) Only A Matter Of Time 07) Beatles Medley (Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End) I think this DVD originally popped up on Dime A Dozen a couple years ago, and has spread like wildfire ever since. The Bonn clip was done for the VIVA station in Germany, and Puppies On Acid/Just Let Me Breathe from this special made it to the 5 Years In A LIVEtime DVD. The SIR Studios clip was a showcase for MCA Records. Dream Theater was signed at the time to Mechanic Records, which was MCA's heavy metal sub-label. This show constitutes the earliest comp

It does have two interesting moments nonetheless, which is why I've decided to share the bootleg: the first performance of Innocence Faded since 1997, and a quick cover of the Muse song Stockholm Syndrome after Home (I would have imagined them incorporating it into Never Enough). The Answer Lies Within also did not get played many times, nor did This Dying Soul get played many times a

DVD Specs: PAL   Sample Spectrogram Reading of "Knife Strikes Paris" in bootleg: So basically, the audio on the DVD release of this show (called En Direct De La Fosse, which translates to "Live From The Pit") sucks because it's distorted and there's lots of crowd noise, so I'm putting a separate audio recording of the show called "The Knife Strikes In Paris" out there just in case anyone wants to play around with replacing the audio on En Direct De La Fosse. I think it would be a winner, because the DVD footage was shot right in front of the stage, and you get lots of close-ups of the band members. I just don't know if I'm going to have time to get to this, and if I do, I'll probably only fix up some of the more interesting songs like Raise The Knife and Another Won. Dream Theater - The Complete Forbidden Dreams Boxset In FLAC

Image
This was released on the Japanese Bondage Music label in 2002, and features three superb soundboard recordings which I consider to be essential for any DT bootleg collector. The first one is from IMP AKA Imperial Hall in Osaka 1992/11/19. This one also goes under the names Images and Tour '92 (vol. 1 of the "Soundboard Masters" series) and Osaka Samurai, and there is an audience recording of this same show which gets erroneously billed under the name Moon Bubbles as the Shibuya Kokaido in Tokyo 1992/11/18. The second recording is from Festival Hall in Osaka 1993/08/28, which also goes under the names Music In Progress Tour '93 (vol. 2 of the "Soundboard Masters" series) and Mission: Impossible. The third recording is from Koseinenkin Hall, Tokyo 1995/01/23, and also goes under the names Waking Up The World Tour '95 (vol. 3 of the "Soundboard Masters" series), and Tokyo Dragons. There's also considerable overlap between these reco

Dream Theater - Varese, Italy 1995 DVD

Date: July 4th Location: Palaghiaccio Some DVD specs: PAL Setlist: 01. Under A Glass Moon 02. The Mirror 03. Lie 04. Lifting Shadows Off A Dream 05. A Change Of Seasons 06. Surrounded 07. Erotomania 08. Voices 09. The Silent Man 10. Pull Me Under 11. Wait For Sleep (acoustic) 12. Learning To Live While Americans were stuffing their faces with burgers and hot dogs and watching fireworks, the Italian who filmed this probably did not know at the time that they were recording one of only two videotaped performances of Under A Glass Moon from 1995 (the other is the Canoe Place Inn show), and the only 1995 video of A Change Of Seasons, the acoustic version of Wait For Sleep, and Learning To Live. The second European leg of the Waking Up The World Tour is notoriously under-recorded, which is unfortunate since LaBrie's voice was starting to recover, and there were some curiosities in the setlist at this time (such as the aforementioned acoustic version of Wait For Sle

Dream Theater - Dream Control - Live In New Haven, CT 1994

This was a request I got from someone on YouTube a few months ago when I shared Innocence Faded, so it seems like a logical thing to put on my blog. Derek is still relatively new in the band, and consequently, probably doesn't play on The Ones Who Help To Set The Sun judging by videos of this tour. There's a moderate amount of tape hiss, but this is still towards the upper end of the 1994 recordings, given that some of them have extreme noise and/or are off-speed. These are in SHN format , so Mac users, make sure you have xACT. Frequency analysis of Caught In A Web: Download link: https://mega.nz/#F!fBhTSAIB!pgdZLcJq6-gaZUyW9thZUQ

Dream Theater - The 2004 Spanish Radio Broadcast

Image
This broadcast goes under a staggering number of names including En Directo, Train To Madrid, Blind Devotion, As I Am, Conscience Fading, Stream Of Emissions, or simply Live In Madrid. The best version of the show I've found is called "Train To Madrid." All others I've heard, including the En Directo version from Godfather Records, have messed up cymbals. Dream Theater - Singer Auditions 1990

Image
Dream Theater with Steve Stone 1990 Chris Cintron John Hendricks John Arch There are numerous DT bootlegs which have recordings from these auditions, including Subconscious, Antiquities, Uncovered, Winter Rose In The Dream, and Studio Demo 1988-1990, but the only complete set I have of the auditions is in MP3 format from a torrent. It's a little muddy sounding, perhaps as a result of the MP3 compression, but I didn't notice any of the extreme noise or phasing problems which I've heard on some pressings Download link: https://mega.nz/#F!SZ4lGALY!pC1xJD6--pSATaA0K-1gmw

Dream Theater - Showdown At Birch Hill

Image
I only have this one as MP3s, but it's an interesting, relatively noise-free version of the show, compared to the more common one. There's a bit of a strange, metallic overtone to MP's cymbals, probably an artifact of the denoiser used. For the uninitiated, Showdown was an early instrumental version of Raise The Knife. This show also has the "Mercy Fuck" performance of Change Of Seasons. https://mega.nz/#F!HUQASIpD!CwPNRkwJ44gtOCbJTtLiEA

Dream Theater - When Dream And James Unite

Image
I've had two people now request this CD, so I may as well put it on this blog. The reason I did not put it up earlier is because some tracks are horrendously noisy, and I was trying to share things which were nice quality. The basic idea here, like the When Dream And Day Today album, which was one of the Prism Records CDs, is to construct the entire When Dream And Day Unite album with James singing using live recordings. This album has some really lovely bonus tracks which are hard, nay impossible, to find anywhere else. First, there is a soundboard recording of To Live Forever from Sursee, Switzerland 1993. This may trace back to an appearance of Portnoy on the Nightwatch program with Mike Kelly. Too lazy to check right now. Then, there is a studio session practicing for a gig with Iron Maiden in 1992 (sadly, the tapes have been sped way up and James sounds like a chipmunk). Finally, there are the ubiquitous tunes from Bruce Dickinson's radio show in 199

Dream Theater - Lifting Shadows Companion CD (2007)

This limited edition CD came with older editions of the great Lifting Shadows biography of Dream Theater, and contains numerous rarities spanning the band's career, including the outtaked version of Under A Glass Moon from the Live At The Marquee album- much better quality than what previously appeared on "Antiquities." 1) Another Won 1985 Berklee Demo 2) Two Far 1986 Majesty Demo 3) Status Seeker Radio Remix 4) Don't Look Past Me (music recorded 1990, vocals recorded 1999) 5) Under A Glass Moon Live At The Marquee outtake 6) Caught In A Web from Bruce Dickinson's radio show 1995 7) You Or Me 1996 Demo 8) Burning My Soul Once In A LIVEtime Outtake 9) Through Her Eyes "Long Titantic" Arrangement 10) Your Majesty live in Paris 2002 11) Metropolis from When Dream And Day Reunite show 2004 Like the last thing I shared, this is in .cue format, so make sure you have VLC or another program that can play these. Dream Theater - Stream Of Consciousness songwriting contest (2003)

Image
In 2003, Dream Theater released Jordan Rudess' MIDI charts containing the time signatures for "S.O.C.", as well as goofy names for the individual parts of the song like "Crimson Setup" and "UK Rise," and thought it would be fun to see fans produce compositions based on these guidelines. The winners were selected based on overall musicality, as well as similarity to the actual (yet unreleased) Stream Of Consciousness song. The finalists were announced to be: 1) Andy Rowland and Ant Law 2) Daisuke Kurosawa 3) Linear Sphere 4) Richard Campbell 5) Brian Wherry 6) Redemption 7) Eric Clemenzi It is worthwhile to familiarize yourself with these songs, because they are often passed off as leaked demos or studio tracks from Systematic Chaos and other albums. Note that the version I'm offering of this CD is in .cue format , which can be played using VLC . I tried splitting the continuous FLAC file into individual tracks, and Audacity kept quitt

Dream Theater - Irving Plaza 1998-05-08 Multi-Cam Edit DVD

DVD Specs: NTSC? This is a version of this DVD which regrettably does not have the cover medley at the end of Take The Time including Free Bird, Hot For Teacher, Moby Dick, The Trooper, and YYZ. I don’t know what happened. The video basically farts out. However, the picture and sound quality overall are much better than two other DVDs I have of this show. One of those DVDs is really blurry and pixellated, and the other (which I bought from a very unscrupulous person on iOffer) has audio which goes way out-of-sync. It may even simply be downloaded from Jack Eigagder’s YouTube channel and burned onto a DVD. At any rate, this is my favorite video of the Falling Into Infinity years- better imo than the hodgepodge of videos on the Five Years In A LIVEtime DVD. This, like the 1993 Limelight show, was a multi-cam labor of love of fans, and it just so happened Jaime LaBrie (during his Mexican drug lord phase) was in the zone on this particular night. Setlist: A Cha
