Dream Theater - The Fix For '96

One of only five shows Dream Theater played in 1996, and saw among the earliest performances of Burning My Soul (the original version with Hell's Kitchen), Just Let Me Breathe, Peruvian Skies, Lines In The Sand (which LaBrie introduces as Drawing Lines In The Sand), and Take Away My Pain, which had a different arrangement and lyrics at the time. The grunge version of Caught In A Web also has some of the riffs which became New Millennium. Another cool thing about the '96 shows is that they saw the reintroduction of an old favorite, The Killing Hand, into the setlist.

There's another '96 bootleg I have, The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY, which I prefer to this one due to better quality an LaBrie being in better form. I'm not giving away master files of that one though because it's too rare, and I need some leverage for trading. I have that one on YouTube in case people want to listen. Another thing about that one is that I seem to recall it having gaps between the individual tracks which I fixed for the YouTube video, so the YouTube version might even be better than the master files even in spite of the lossy compression YouTube applies, which the anal audiophiles love to complain about.

Which reminds me- based on spectral analysis of this bootleg, I do not believe it is lossless. I have all of the DT bootlegs from Majestic Melodies Entertainment and all of them, including this one, have frequencies that cut off anywhere from 16-18 kHZ, which is a likely sign of sub-320 kbps MP3 encoding. Those guys never put out a bad album though as far as I'm concerned. Some of their albums including this one are pretty average recording quality, but there's usually something interesting/novel enough about the show (or the bonus content) to compensate. The only reason I bother doing these frequencies analyses is because some traders are anal about this, and I don't want anyone coming to me with horror stories about how they reposted something I shared to Dime A Dozen only to have it get locked by the mods because they discovered it was actually lossy.

One final note. In case anyone is wondering what the heck Carnival Of Clams is, this was the working title for Burning My Soul. Silly working titles have been an institution for DT going back to even the Charlie days.
